NONAT, Alain
1942-2024It is with immense sadness that we announce the death of Alain Nonat, aged 82, who left this world on December 31, 2024, in Montreal to join the stars and continue his eternal song.
Born in Melun in France on June 18, 1942, and living in Montreal from 1966 to 1970, then 1975 to 2024, his life was a true symphony of moments of brilliant joy, challenges overcome with courage, his many projects and immeasurable love.
His contagious enthusiasm was a source of inspiration, his infinite creativity and his gift to others were a blessing to all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Alain leaves to mourn his family on both continents, starting with his wife Sylvia Burla, his children Roxane Nonat (Éric Lafleur) and Vanessa, his grandsons Mikaël, Samuel and Raphaël Nonat. He is also mourned by his brothers and sister Yvette (Jean-Pierre) Chaussat, François (Patricia), Jean-Luc (Brigitte), his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Raymonde (late Fernand) d’Anjou, Renaldo (Cathy) Burla, Martin Burla (Sasicha).
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Pierre, Jean-Marc, Guy, Paul, Valérie, Christina, Vincent, Alexandra, Laure, Jessica, Aurélie, Jimmy, Martin, Stephanie, Natasha, their spouses and/or partners and their children and other family members.
His childhood friends and other close friends, former work colleagues and many colleagues from the artistic and cultural world, without forgetting all those who were lucky enough to cross his path, also share their sadness at his disappearance.
A true force of nature and pillar of the artistic and cultural field, particularly opera, he was involved body and soul until his last breath in the organization he founded almost 50 years ago, the Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20.
Tenor, dance critic, primary school teacher, jury member, stage director, vocal coach, general and artistic director and more, he has, during his existence, marked the lives, the trajectory and the hearts of thousands of citizens of all ages, in the four corners of the world, leaving a lasting imprint for past generations, as well as for those to come.
He had a deep passion for what he did. He had the power to make what seemed inaccessible possible, to transform the wildest dreams into tangible achievements. He had this extraordinary talent for bringing together and uniting people from different backgrounds around common projects, which were at the same time innovative, exceptional and unique.
His voluntary commitment to the democratization and promotion of culture, the support and recognition of the talent of artists, as well as the development of relations and exchanges between countries will forever mark the minds and inspire all those who follow in his footsteps.
His unwavering passion for travel and the arts, his boundless generosity and his deep love for those close to him will remain forever engraved in our memories and our hearts.
He now joins those he loved so much, including his father (late Georges Nonat), his mother (late Jeannine Cauderon), his brother (late Emmanuel) and many dear family members and friends who have already left.
The family thanks the staff of the Sacré-Cœur Hospital of Montreal and the Jewish General Hospital of Montreal for the care provided to him.
We invite you to meet us on Saturday, March 29, to say a final goodbye and celebrate together the unique melody he left in our hearts. The family will receive condolences from 1 p.m. at Saint-Édouard Church, above 425, Beaubien Street East. A musical religious ceremony will follow at 2 p.m.
