LANGLOIS, Richard
2021-08-06Richard Joseph Langlois, 68, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 2, 2021. Born in Montreal to Maurice and Jeannine, Richard is survived by his children Michelle, Joel, Serenah, and Shaun-Simon, and his grandchildren Alyssah, Liam, Charlotte, Kinsley, Ella, and Sienna. He was predeceased by his sister Danielle and is survived by his sisters Francine and Lisette, and his brothers Patrick and Claude.
Richard wore many hats during his life: he was a son, a big brother, a dad, a husband, a grandpa, a refrigeration mechanic, a maker of backyard skating rinks, a soccer coach, a firefighter, a first responder, a phone book delivery driver, an art gallery co-owner, a first aid teacher, a church caretaker, and much more.
He loved learning new things, owls, making sometimes terrible jokes, photography, estimating how long it would take him to drive somewhere, his kids and grandkids (who were his sunshine), hot chicken sandwiches, airplanes, memorizing the exits with the best rest stops from Toronto to New Brunswick, being right, and turning strangers into friends. He always kept a dictionary or trivia book in the bathroom because he said reading them helped to keep him sharp.
Richard was funny, charming, curious about people and the world, sensitive, giving, and loving. Richard was stubborn. He was proud. He could be quick to anger and slow to forgive. He made choices that were not always easy to accept. He never fully learned that it was okay to ask for help or to articulate what he truly needed. He was not perfect but, like all of us, he did the best he could. Like many of us, he perhaps never fully believed he was loved and worthy of love.
Richard was loved and worthy of love. In the end, he knew that to be true. He will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, Richard’s family requests that people make donations to the Brain Canada Foundation.
