McIlwaine, Barbara (nee KEARNEY)
October 25, 1937 - July 23, 2024It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Ann McIlwaine (nee Kearney) peacefully and surrounded by her family. Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 63 years James “Tubby” McIlwaine. She leaves to mourn her beloved children Janet Zywotko (Andy) and Jimmy McIlwaine (Denise Boyer); her cherished grandchildren Caitlin, Nicholas, James and Karley.
Loving daughter of the late Harold and Williamina (Gibson) Kearney. Predeceased by her brother Jack and sisters Ina and June. Leaving to mourn her sisters Joyce, Janet, Kay, Mary, and her brother Tommy. Her loss will be felt by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Barbara, was a devoted and loving Nanny to her grandchildren and was adored by them. She was a kind and selfless woman who would help anyone in need.
She loved a challenge and was a hard worker. “Winners never quit and quitters never win” was one of her favourite sayings. She worked at Northern Electric (Nortel) for 35 years where she welcomed challenges and received recognition with several promotions.
Barbara had exceptional creative talent and there was nothing she could not sew, knit, crochet, or craft! She loved the water, especially the ocean and a lobster dinner. She enjoyed riding her bike, exercise classes and aqua aerobics, where her winning personality made it easy for her to make many friends.
She will be sorely missed.
As per Barbara’s wishes, no services will be held.
“Until we meet again. …”

Dear Janet, Jimmy and family, Please receive our deepest sympathies for the passing of cousin Barbara. She and I talked a few months ago and reminisced, bringing back fond memories of the old days - at The Pointe and Ste Rose (babysitting my brother and I). Barb was a great Lady and very kind person. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all, during these difficult times. With Lots of Love, Christine and Richard
